Graffiti Art Programming (GAP) is a highly unique and dynamic Community Youth Arts Centre located in Point Douglas. GAP was established in 1998, initially in response to the growing illegal graffiti problem in our city, however, over the past 13 years we have been called upon to support… and redirect young people involved in many different types of anti-social behavior.
“It is our firm belief that a young person’s education is their path to freedom from negative influences and that making it relevant and enjoyable is the key to staying on the right path. High School graduation rates in many of the neighbourhoods that we serve in the North End are below 50%.
Education is embedded in our methodology, programs and approach with young people. We have found that using art as a tool in support of their education is one way to make it relevant and enjoyable. Research has shown that children who are involved in some form of regular art classes, whether it be; dance, theatre, music or visual art, are much more successful in school than those who do not have the same opportunities. Currently we have over 1,000 young people enrolled in daily after school art classes, all at no cost for those children attending. The operation of these programs does, of course, come with a cost. By supporting the work we do you can save lives!”
Attached is a pledge form, and we kindly ask for your donation to help pay for these children to continue to benefit from this programming. Any contribution you can make is valuable towards the cause. Please consider either a personal donation, or donation through your Company. Even passing along this post through twitter or facebook will help.
